Other versions

The track has been covered by JES in various trance and acoustic styles, as well as The Brunettes for the 2008 American Laundromat Records tribute album Just Like Heaven - a tribute to The Cure. The song has also been covered by the bands A Perfect Circle (as a mashup with Diary of a Madman), Good Charlotte, The Deluxtone Rockets, Jack Off Jill, Snake River Conspiracy, Azam Ali/Niyaz, Ira Losco, Death Cab for Cutie, Anberlin, Seafood (who released their cover of the song as a download-only single in June 2007), Fordirelifesake and Voltaire.

Solo artists have performed covers as well, such as singer-songwriter Tori Amos during several live performances, most famously on the radio station KROQ-FM. Irish singer-songwriter Naimee Coleman included an interpretation of the song on her 2001 album Bring Down The Moon. Blake Lewis, the runner-up on the sixth season of American Idol, performed the song on March 27, 2007 on the show, though his rendition was modeled directly after the 311 cover rather than the original Cure version. In fact, some of the praise from the show's judges for the originality of Lewis' version suggest that they were perhaps unaware of the existence of the 311 version and believed Lewis to have come up with the new arrangement on his own (though Lewis himself never claimed this). A studio version of Blake Lewis' take on Lovesong was put up on the American Idol official website and was later included on his Blake Lewis - EP, as well as in the American Idol Season 6: The Collector's Edition, the compilation of the studio versions of song performed by the finalists of Idol. Voltaire released an acoustic cover that more fits his style of music on his album Then and Again.

It was recently covered by Captain during a BBC Radio 2 live session with Dermot O'Leary. The Big Pink provided a cover of "Lovesong" for The Cure tribute album Pictures of You: A Tribute to Godlike Geniuses The Cure, which was made available with the February 25, 2009 issue of NME.[3] Nina Sky covered this song on their 2010 EP The Other Side.

It was also covered by Maltese singer Ira Losco, found on her 2007 unplugged album Unmasked.

British singer Adele included a cover of the song on her second album, 21 in 2011, which peaked at #18 on Billboard Jazz Songs.

Japanese electronic singer-songwriter immi included a cover of the song on her debut album Switch.

"Pictures of You" is the fourth and final single from the British rock band, The Cure's 1989 album Disintegration. The single version is a remix edit of the album version, and at 4:48 minutes is significantly shorter than the original album version which runs for 7:24. There are also two different remixes on two UK 12" singles, and other singles released around the world, one of which later appeared on Mixed Up as the Extended Dub Mix and differs significantly from the album version in arrangement in that incorporates wholly original drum and bass arrangements. The other is an extended remix of the original album version which, at 7:59, runs slightly longer than the album version. There is also an edit which was released on 12" in the US, titled "extended remix" as in the European and Australasian releases, but which runs for 6:40 rather than 7:59.

According to interviews, the inspiration of the song came when a fire broke loose in Robert Smith's home. After that day, Robert was going through the remains and came across his wallet which had pictures of his wife, Mary. The cover of the single is one of the pictures. The same picture was used as the cover of the "Charlotte Sometimes" single, but that version was heavily warped and distorted.

In 2003, Hewlett-Packard used the song in a commercial for digital photography products.

In 2004, the song was voted 278th on Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list.

A cover of the song is featured on Lit's 2004 self-titled album.

In 2012, the song appeared in the closing scene of the film, The Vow.

"Never Enough" is a song by British alternative rock group The Cure, featured on their 1990 album Mixed Up. Unlike most other Cure songs of this era, the song was unexpectedly guitar-oriented, featuring no synthesizers. Upon release as a single, "Never Enough" topped the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart for three weeks. On the album, it is subtitled "Big Mix".

Although Perry Bamonte is on the single cover and appears in the music video, he does not have a songwriting credit (as do the other four members) nor does he play on the track.

The song was re-recorded using acoustic guitars for 2001's Acoustic Hits album (contains re-recordings of songs by the band, and released as a bonus disc to Greatest Hits). The version featured is probably more notable than any other re-recording on the album because it is the only recording from the album released elsewhere, on 2010's various artists album Brit Awards 2010.

"Friday I'm in Love" is a song by British rock band The Cure. It is the second single taken from the album Wish (1992). It won the award for European Viewer's Choice for Best Music Video at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards.

Production

Writing

During the writing process, Robert Smith became convinced that he had inadvertently stolen the chord progression from somewhere, and this led him to a state of paranoia where he called everyone he could think of and played the song for them, asking if they heard the song before. None of them had, and Robert realized that the melody was indeed his.[1]

The track was produced by both David M. Allen and The Cure.

Personnel

Like much of the band's artwork, the single's art was designed and created by guitarist Porl Thompson and Andy Vella.

Boris Williams - Drums

Perry Bamonte - Keyboard, guitar
