Mixed Up is a 1990 remix album by The Cure. The songs are remixes of some of their hits.

Most of the songs are extended mixes. Several had been previously released on 12" singles, but some are completely remade, with Smith recutting vocals due to the original tapes not being available. The record closes with the extended version of a new single, "Never Enough". The remix of "Pictures of You" was originally released under the title "(Strange Mix)". In an interview featured on the Trilogy DVD, singer Robert Smith described the remix album as something "fun after the doom and gloom of Disintegration".

The Cure also released some other new mixes as the b-sides of the singles from Mixed Up : the first single, "Never Enough", featured a remix of "Let's Go To Bed", entitled "Let's Go To Bed (Milk Mix)" (on the 12", cassette and CD versions), as well as a new song, "Harold and Joe", while the second single, "Close to Me (Remix)" contained "Just Like Heaven (Dizzy Mix)" (on all formats) and "Primary (Red Mix)" (on the 12", CD and cassette versions) as b-sides.

CD editions do not include "Why Can't I Be You? (Extended Remix)", this was due to the 74-minute (later 80-minute) limit necessary to be compliant with the Compact Disc standard.

Track Names

The Cure also seemed to have named some of the mixes after a lyric from the specific song. No reason for this has yet been provided

"The Walk (Everything Mix) "In an instant I remembered everything"

"A Forest (Tree Mix)" "Into the trees"

"The Caterpillar (Flicker Mix)" "Flicker, flicker, flicker, flicker/ Here you are"

"In Between Days (Shiver Mix)" "Yesterday I got so scared I shivered like a child"

"Never Enough (Big Mix)" "However big I ever feel/It's never enough"

"Primary (Red Mix)" "So they close together/Dressed in red and yellow"

"Just Like Heaven (Dizzy Mix)" "Spinning on that dizzy edge/I kissed her face and kissed her head"

"Let's Go to Bed (Milk Mix)" "Let me take your hand/I'm shaking like milk"

Mixed Up

131

"Close to Me (Closer Mix)" and "Close to Me (Closest Mix) are different because the words "Closer" or "Closest" are not actually contained in the lyrics.

Notes

As the original master tapes could not be found, "A Forest" is not a remixe, it is a re-recording.

Over time, the CD edition has slightly changed. At the time of release, the words "Mixed Up" at the bottom of the cover were white in a box, but have sinced changed to black in a box. Also, the order of text on the CD disc has slightly been rearranged. Also, the track listing on the back cover, text in the liner notes and the text on the album cover (bar the small "Mixed Up" at the bottom) were originally a metallic. Now they are grey.

Personnel

Robert Smith – Vocals, Guitar, Six-String Bass, Keyboards

Simon Gallup – Bass

Porl Thompson – Guitar, Six-String Bass

Boris Williams – Drums

Roger O'Donnell – Keyboards

Lol Tolhurst - Keyboards on Tracks 2,8,9,10 and 11

Singles from The Cure: Greatest Hits

1. "Cut Here"

Released: 18 March 2001

2. "Just Say Yes"

Released: 18 April 2001

Greatest Hits is a 2001 compilation album by The Cure. The band's relationship with longtime label Fiction Records came to a close, and The Cure were obliged to release one final album for the label. Robert Smith agreed to release a greatest hits album under the condition that he could choose the tracks himself. The band also recorded a special studio album released as a bonus disc to some versions of the album. The disc, titled Acoustic Hits, is the eighteen songs from the North American release re-recorded using acoustic guitars.

History

The subsequently-released Greatest Hits features select singles from their then-25 year history, along with the two new tracks "Cut Here" and "Just Say Yes". All songs were newly-remastered specifically for the collection.

In an effort to provide something new for the hardcore fans who owned the previously-released songs, Robert arranged for the band and former member Boris Williams to re-record acoustic versions of the Greatest Hits. Only the select first pressings of Greatest Hits were bundled with the bonus disc of Acoustic Hits.

Greatest Hits was also released on VHS and DVD. The video track listing mirrors that of the North American audio CD, with the exception of "The Caterpillar", "Pictures of You" and "Close to Me (Closest Mix)" which appear as hidden easter eggs. Six of the acoustic performances also appear on the DVD.
