Legal profession in Russia

Legal profession in Russia is considered prestigious and high-paid profession. So many school graduates want to enter in it. To do it, they have to pass Unified State Exams- most often are history, social studies and Russian language. After that they may go to legal universities or to any universities, that have legal specialty-there are more than 270. Duration of education depends on degree, that you want to get-approximately 4-7 years. Already on 3-4 years of education, student should to choose specific legal profession - there are pretty many : advocate, legal adviser, notary, prosecutor, investigator, judge etc. Also, the lawyers themselves are divided into spheres of activity:tax lawyer, patent lawyer, business lawyer- most often such specialists work in private companies and are called in-house lawyers. Let’s talk about some of these lawyers. Advocate is professional legal adviser. He prepares applications, complaints, petitions and other legal documents. And also participates as a representative of the principal in legal proceedings or in other public authorities. The right to practice law is granted by a special status. A person can to get this status having a higher legal education obtained under a state-accredited educational program, or an academic degree in a legal specialty. Lawyers may also join in bar associations. A good advocate have to be fairness, stress tolerance, perseverance, purposefulness and to possess communication skills to competently, confidently and clearly communicate with the client and defend his interests in a court. The advantages include a high salary and prestige and stability of work, and the disadvantages are frequent stress , high responsibility, as well as the need for continuous professional development as there is a very large competition. The judge is probably the most responsible legal specialty, so to become a judge, a person must have several important things such as the citizenship of the Russia, higher legal education, age at least 25 years(it depends on qualification of court), work experience in the legal profession of at least 5 years:(the same), able-bodied, not registered in a drug treatment. Also, a person have to be honest, principled, fair, humane, attentive. These qualities will help the judge to be impartial and make the right decisions. Many students want to be judges, as this is again a very prestigious and authoritative work. It raises you in social status and gives you career prospects. The disadvantages of this profession include a large psychological pressure, lack of personal time, professional deformation, and judges risk their lives, so there are often cases of threats from outside. Summing up, we can say that the legal profession in Russia is very popular and highly paid, but there is a lot of competition, so in ,,order to stay afloat’’ , you must study well at a university, and constantly improve your qualifications.
