The profession of a lawyer - Профессия юриста

It is very important for everybody to make a right choice of profession. There are a lot of respected professions today. Still, it is difficult for young people to choose. I changed my planes several times about what want to be. I have decided yet that I want to be a lawyer.    It is important to understand that law is not only necessary just because there are bad people in the world. If we were all as good as we ought to be, we should still require a set of rules of behavior. In other words these are laws. They enable us to live in any kind of a state.    Every lawyer is required to protect the law. The legal profession is very popular and highly paid today. He is responsible to use laws to help people live safely and comfortably. Still, it is not all an easy work to do.    A lawyer gives you pieces of advice on legal problems or gives reasons for defending people in the court.    Today a good lawyer is of great demand in our country. I want to become a lawyer devoted to my cause.    THE FOUNDATION OF BRITISH LAW.

There are some legal documents of constitutional importance which have affected British legal system. They are: The Magna Carta, The Bill of Rights, The Petition of Rights and Habeas Corpus Act. The H.C is one of the oldest constitutional papers.

At the heart of the English system are two principles of government – limited government and representative government. The idea that government was not all-powerful first appeared in the Magna Carta or Great Charter that King John signed in 1215 under the threat of civil war. The Magna Carta established the principle of limited government in which the power of the monarch or government, was limited, not absolute. This documents provided for protection against unjust punishment and the loss of life liberty and property except according to law. It said that no citizen could be punished or kept in prison without a fair trial. The king could not levy taxes without public consent.

In Britain, the United States, and many other English-speaking countries, the law of Habeas Corpus guarantees that nobody can be held in prison without trial. Habeas Corpus Act is the major guarantee of civil rights and liberties in England.

The constitutional resistance in the XVII-th century was expressed in The Petition of rights. In 1628 the parliament forced the king to sign the Petition of Rights which limited his rights. According to this document the King could levy taxes only if he received the approval of the Parliament.

The English Bill of Rights is an important legal document. It limited the power of the monarch. The king could not interfere into the matters of the Parliament and he could not levy taxes without the Parliament approval. It declared traditional rights of English people. The main ideas of this document were later used in Declaration of Independence in the USA.

The Institute of Law.

I finished school last year and I decided to enter the Northern Arctic Federal University. I passed three exams and entered the University. After that I became a first- year student of the Institute of Law.

Our Institute of Law is a part of the Northern Arctic Federal University. A law course in our institute gives good education in law and trains specialists. The University students can get a degree of a Bachelor and of a Master.

At the end of every term students take exams and tests in all the subjects they study.

A Bachelor course lasts four years. Students study civil law, private law and public law and their categories. In addition we study ethics, morality, oratory, foreign languages and philosophy. Students must know how to interpret law and use logical thinking.

A lot of students continue their education and get a Master’s degree. A Master course lasts two years. At the end of the course students write a dissertation.

Students of our institute take an active part in life of the Institute and the University.

The University graduates work at big companies, research institutes, governmental organizations in Russia and abroad.

I chose this institute because it is the only institute in the area where you can get a good knowledge of the law.

Law and Society

it is obvious to every that any community needs some kind of law

When the world was at a very primitive stage, there was no such law, and, if a man chose to kill his wife or if a woman succeeded in killing her husband, that was their own business and no one interfered officially.

But, for a very long time now, members of every community have made laws for themselves in self-protection.

If it were not for the law, you could not go out in broad daylight without the fear of being kidnapped, robbed or murdered. There are far, far more good people in the world than bad, but there are enough of the bad to make law necessary in the interests of everyone.

So you can see that there must be laws, however good we may be. Unfortunately, however, we are none of us always good and some of us are bad, or at any rate have our bad moments, and so the law has to provide for all kinds of possibilities.

Every country tries,, therefore, to provide laws which will help its people to live safely and as comfortably as possible. This is not at all an easy thing to do, and no country has been successful in producing laws which are entirely satisfactory. But we are far better off with the imperfect laws which we have, than if we had none at all.
