W/B ex.1 (p.44)

1. The company has a vested (e) interest in the test results being positive.

2. The figures showed a negative (d) correlation between addiction to video games and poor reading.

3. Since the subject group was female only, the research is (a) seriously flawed as it is not representative.

4. In order to gain financial support, scientists have a vested interest in communicating with policymakers.

5. This sudden drop in numbers may simply be a statistical anomaly, i.e. an exception to the general trend.

6. Researchers have been successful in establishing a causal link between chemical waste from the cement factory and the rise in the incidence of skin cancer in the area.
