AUXILIARY VERBS IN SHORT ASWERS AND QUESTIONS
SO AM I / NEITHER AM I
- Are you working tomorrow? - Yes, I am.' (=
He could lend us the money but he won't. (=
В этой ситуации в Present Simple и Past Simple используются do / does / did:
- Does he smoke? - He did but he doesn't any more.
-It rained every day during our holiday. - Did it?
-Ann isn't very well today. - Oh, isn't she?
-I've just seen Tom. - Oh, have you? How is he?
142
- Jim and Nora are getting married. - Are they? Really?
- I'm feeling tired. - So am I.
- I’ve never seen this newspaper. - Neither have I.
- I hardly ever sleep in transport. - Neither do I.
- I can't remember his name. - Nor can I. / Neither can I.
QUESTION TAGS
You haven’t got a car, have you?
It was a good film, wasn’t it?
В Present Simple и Past Simple употребляются do / does / did:
They came by car, didn't they?
Ann will be here soon, won’t she?
Tom should pass his exam, shouldn’t he? They were very angry, weren’t they?
Tom won’t be late, will he? They don’t like us, do they?
That isn’t George over there, is it?
There is hardly any milk left, is there?
- You are not going to work today, are you? - Yes. (= I am going to work.)
- No. (= I'm not going to work.)
143
- Tom doesn't look very well today, does he? - No, he looks awful. She's very attractive. She's got beautiful eyes, hasn't she?
- You haven't seen Ann today, have you? (= Have you seen Ann today?) - No, I'm afraid not.
- You haven't got a cigarette, have you? - Yes, here you are.
- You couldn't do me a favour, could you? - It depends on what it is. - You don't know where Ann is, do you? - Sorry, I've no idea.

(LINKING WORDS AND PHRASES)
