FRUITIE BAR

It’s sweet!

It’s delicious!

It’s different and very special!

It surely can’t be good for you?

But it is!

Its sweetness is all natural and it’s full of the vitamins that every body needs.

Especially young bodies.

What better snack to offer your children?

Re: Party

Hi Clare,

Thank you so much for the lovely party last night. I had a great time. I loved those delicious and unusual chocolate cakes! Could you send me the recipe? I’d like to make some for my mum. Perhaps you could give it to me when we meet on Friday? You have remembered that we’re going to a concert then, haven’t you?

ALPHA RESTAURANT

Have you tried this new restaurant yet? It has got off to a good start. It has attracted a worldclass chef and the menu is unusual and interesting.

However, there is still something a little disappointing about it. The décor is rather ordinary and the service is slower than it should be.

But the most important thing about a restaurant is the food and that is certainly up to standard. I enjoyed an excellent goat’s cheese starter followed by a delicious crispy duck dish. Only the best organic and healthy ingredients are used too.

Reading Part 4

Read the text and answer the questions below. Do NOT use more than three words in each answer. The first one is done for you.

Edinburgh Glass Visitors Centre

Most tourists to Edinburgh, Scotland’s beautiful capital city, head first for the famous historic sites of the city – the Castle, Holyrood House, where David Rizzio, Mary Queen of Scots’ handsome young Italian secretary, was murdered and St Giles’ Cathedral. But there are plenty of other interesting things that can be done in the wider area if you have a little more time to spend there.

For example, you could make a trip to a factory in Penicuik some 30 miles south of the capital. Here they have made high-quality glass for 130 years. You can take a guided tour of the factory where you can watch highly skilled workers shape and design the glass. You can then see how these craftsmen engrave their products with beautiful patterns.

The basic tour lasts about an hour and costs only £3.50. However, if you are prepared to pay £10 you can do a special tour which takes a half day. This includes the opportunity to have a go at glassmaking yourself. You can shape your own glass which is then engraved for you with your name. The price of the tour includes the cost of your personalised glass.

It is a wonderful tour which both adults and children will find fascinating. However, children have to be at least eight to be allowed to try to make their own glass. Moreover, the guides have the right to refuse to let some children older than eight handle the glass if they feel they are not mature enough to attempt what can be a dangerous process.

The Visitors Centre includes – of course – a shop where you can buy both top quality goods and also seconds or glass which looks perfect but which has for some reason not passed the strict quality control checks and so is on sale at a cheaper price. There is also an excellent restaurant and people from Edinburgh sometimes go to the Centre just for a meal.
